Act! Sing! Dance!

Do all this and more every Saturday at The Pauline Quirke Academy! PQA’s module system is something that makes us really different. Most weekend drama schools rather unimaginatively split their time between drama, singing and dancing. At PQA we have broken the mould and come up with a ground - breaking training system.

All students receive 3 hours of tuition over the weekend, which will include an hour each of Comedy & Drama, Musical Theatre and Film & TV. Comedy and Drama Comedy & Drama includes everything from improvisation and devised theatre to script work, mask and mime.

Theatre games improve confidence and self esteem, technique exercises will work on voice and diction and the use of the imagination and tools of storytelling are emphasized. Musical Theatre Musical Theatre combines singing, dancing and acting. Here, students will receive tuition on singing technique and the personal portrayal of a song.

Different dance styles will be explored and we look at how dance can enhance the storytelling. Acting techniques are just as important here and students also get the chance to work on a scene that leads into a song in a musical. Film and TV Let’s be honest, most young people today are more familiar with this than they are with the stage.

This module looks at how storytelling techniques are different on the screen than on the stage. We look at the different acting styles needed, encouraging the students to find truth and honesty rather than ‘big’ performances.

We’re not just interested in the acting either students get to experience writing, directing, camera work and editing in this module the nuts and bolts that go together to make a great movie or TV programme. Masterclasses As well as our normal classes, we regularly arrange visits from various specialist tutors, covering everything from stage combat to clowning, circus skills and street dance.

Also, because the people who run PQA all work in the performing arts professionally, we’re able to bring in people to work with you who really know what they’re talking about! Adult classes Parents !
